Maintenance Guide for the CoilMac-EPI Plus
To ensure your Akiles CoilMac-EPI Plus operates at peak performance for years to come, follow these simple maintenance steps:
Empty the Waste Tray Regularly: A full waste drawer can cause paper chips to back up into the punching throat, potentially damaging the punching pins. Check the tray every few hundred cycles.
Lubricate the Punching Pins: Periodically punch through a sheet of wax paper or use a specialized lubricant on the pins. This reduces friction and ensures a smooth, clean oval hole every time.
Cleaning the Inserter Roller: Over time, the electric roller inserter may accumulate dust from the plastic spiral coils. Wipe the roller with a damp, lint-free cloth to maintain its “grip” for faster coil insertion.
Inspect the Crimping Pliers: Ensure your Coil Crimping Pliers are clean and free of debris to ensure a perfect “cut and crimp” on every document.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What makes the “Plus” model different from the standard CoilMac-EPI?
The CoilMac-EPI Plus features 4:1 pitch 0.248″ OVAL holes. Oval holes are slightly larger than standard round holes, making it significantly easier to thread Spiral Plastic Coils through the document, especially for thicker books.
How many sheets can this machine punch at once?
The high-torque motor is rated to punch up to 20-25 sheets of 20 lb paper. For the best longevity of the machine, we recommend punching 15-18 sheets at a time to maintain a consistent speed and prevent unnecessary wear on the motor.
Can I bind documents larger than 13 inches?
Yes. Thanks to the Open-Ended Throat design, you can punch documents longer than 13″ by simply punching one side, flipping or sliding the paper, and using the alignment guide to punch the remaining section.
Are the punch pins replaceable?
The Akiles CoilMac-EPI Plus is built with high-quality hardened steel pins. While they are designed to last for years, the pins are fully disengageable, allowing you to stop any specific pin from punching to accommodate custom paper sizes.
