Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the difference between the DuoMac-C41 and the DuoMac-C51? The primary difference is the coil punching pitch. The DuoMac-C41 punches a 4:1 pitch (4 holes per inch), which is the most common standard for spiral binding. The DuoMac-C51 punches a 5:1 pitch (5 holes per inch), resulting in more holes that are closer together for a tighter, denser look. Both models include the standard 19-ring plastic comb punching die.
Can the Akiles DuoMac punch plastic poly covers and thicker cardstock? Yes, but with caution. While the machine is rated for up to 20 sheets of 20lb paper, we recommend punching clear or frosted Laminating Covers and heavy cardstock in smaller batches (usually 1–2 covers at a time). This ensures a clean punch and prevents unnecessary wear on the steel dies.
Do I need a separate machine to open the plastic combs? No. The DuoMac-C41 / C51 features a built-in heavy-duty comb opener. This allow you to punch your pages and immediately place them onto the opened comb without moving to a different workstation, making the binding process much faster.
What are disengageable pins and why are they important? Disengageable pins allow you to stop specific punch heads from hitting the paper. This is essential for punching non-standard paper sizes (like A4 or legal) to ensure you don’t end up with a “half-hole” or partial punch at the very edge of your document.
Does this machine include a coil inserter? This specific manual model is designed for manual coil threading. For high-volume coil binding, we recommend pairing it with an Electric Coil Inserter or using the included coil crimping pliers to finish the ends of your spiral spine professionally.
